"Samuri"by Haruyo@£14.00--circa 1989

Antique Mongolian Thangka (A4) 1 of 17 -circa 1900.

Antique Thangka 1of7(A5) -circa 1900.

Thangka have been, of late, used for a number of different purposes, mostly decorative, but, they were originally designed to assist in the teaching of the Buddhist faith. The painted image rather than the written word was used, the former being less susceptible to the inaccuracies of the recanted tale, over time.

These are chinese examples

This, a Mandala

The following are of Mongolian Origin

and are not for sale

(Numbered 7/7) This and the other six, in the set of seven, are smaller(A5) than the main set of 17 which are roughly A4 size.

The Deities depicted are all well known to the Buddhist faith and each image assists the tutor and pupil in their studies.

I would not pretend to be able to enlighten those on a quest, but a click on the following link will help.
